We finally have a platform that can compete with . This solves the #algorithm problem and everyone, especially Europeans, can jump on a platform that doesn't manipulate them. #Meta has already shown itself to be suspicious, to the point of censoring posts that refer to @pixelfed. With good reasons. In just a few days, #Pixelfed has already reached over 330,000 accounts.
But there's more from the #fediverse: an alternative to #TikTok is coming: it's called #loops.

Big tech is picking apart European democracy, but there is a solution: switch off its algorithms
The latest actions of Musk and Zuckerberg are a sign of things to come, but the EU already has the power to give people back control, says Johnny Ryan, director of Enforce, a unit of the Irish Council for Civil LibertiesJohnny Ryan (The Guardian)

Big day for the fediverse
Major news in the #fediverse: #Mastodon becomes a non-profit ; and Instagram replacement #pixelfed , which is seeing a big surge in membership as people flee Meta, launches mobile apps.
And while we're on the subject, let me point to Loops, a fediverse alternative to TikTok which is just now getting off the ground.

Migrating from corporate social media
Starting to explore migrating away from corporate social media like Facebook or Twitter, to the fediverse. The biggest obstacle is of course the network effect: I have a group of friends on Facebook, we all follow each other, will they migrate with me? I guess I'll find out. I am doing this gradually, first migrating to the fediverse (links in my profile), and starting a blog at write.as/leastaction/ with some longer pieces about topics that interest me: the meaning of democracy is a big one for me these days. And yes, the rise of oligarchic despots around the world.
If any of these things resonate with you, do let me know. I am very happy to have conversations about these important topics.
